AUGUST: SOMEMACHINIST’S AEROSPACE PART
#PartPride, Doosan’s social media part-making competition, has a winner to close out the summer! Our congratulations to Seth, aka @somemachinist on Instagram, who used a powerful and popular Doosan lathe to produce this part.
Want to enter what you’re making with your Doosan machines and win a big ol’ box of prizes? Just share a pic or video of your work on Instagram with the #PartPride hashtag, and you’re entered to win. It’s that easy!
We spoke with somemachinist on Instagram to get the details.
Seth used his PUMA 2600SYII to get the job done, a machine they’ve had in the shop for three years. This horizontal with Y-axis machine is known for its ability to work with tough materials, and the Y-axis and integral drive spindles equip it for single setup efficiency and accuracy.
The par is a lavatory drain sill for a major commercial aerospace customer. Seth told us, “It has many tight tolerances. The most challenging aspect is the small slots (.093 wide) in the hard material, which we combat by using 1000 psi coolant.”
“The PUMA 2600 has totally opened new horizons for us in regards to part complexity and scope of work. It is an amazing machine.”
